Edans “Headphone Highlights”

edan1largeRed Bull Music Academy Radio has enlisted Edan to present an hour-long show, playing some of his favourite and influential records. Like his own radio show, music on offer here ranges from late 80’s hip hop, psychedelic rock, soul, funk and all that great stuff. It makes for interesting listening, hearing Edan talk about these records, why he likes them, how they have influenced him and more. You know Edan, you know what to expect.

Check it out HERE.

And don’t forget, Amen Brother present Edan live AV DJ set Dec 4th, London @ The Star Of Bethnal Green, with our own LongDistanceDan supporting. 7-12 free all night, so get down early!

Sir Psych – The Sir

sirSir Psych, record collector, blogger and member of the psychedelic band The Smoking Trees, treats us too a brand new free album, “The Sir”.
“The Sir” is a collection of mellow, psychedelic tracks featuring Sir’s own blissed out vocals, some dusty beats and lots of echo. If you have not heard Sir Psych or The Smoking Tress this is a great introduction to his own modern take on psychedelic folk, with a hint of hip hop through in there too.   Quality stuff as usual and all for free, win win!

Cryptochrome out NOW!

crptoToday is the official release of the self titled debut album from Cryptochrome. I strongly suggest everyone goes and grabs a copy now. This is one of our favourite albums of the year, there’s nothing else out there quite like it.
Gritty, grimey, forward thinking hip hop that has the capacity to be beautiful at the same time. One minute you are in the middle of a forest, feeling like a free wheeling gypsy, the next you are up against a cold concrete landscape, it’s all here. The physical release is set for next year on Defcon Records but get your digital NOW.
You need this in your lives!

Aspects – What Time Is It? (Shepherds Remix)

The 4th re-animated remix of tracks from Aspects “The Left Hand Path” drops today. This time the remix comes from Shepherds – MC 8Man and DJ Aaaron Islamb (AKA The Bees’ Aaron Fletcher).
Remixed and re-recorded, the Shepherds give “What Time Is It?” the woozy, hazy, electronic beats treatment, to great effect. But don’t just take my word for it, download it now for free!

Benjamin One – The Clash EP

benoneBristol producer Benjamin One returns with a new ep on the Ghost Locust Music label. “The Clash” EP is a tasty mix of hip hop beats, electronic bass, and a large helping of dub.
Three tracks long, you can hear influences from electronica, future beats side of hip hop, dubstep, jungle and dub reggae. Lot’s of skippy hi-hats, heavy bass lines mixed with hard, crunching beats and dancehall vocal samples.
This marks a welcome return from Benjamin, and we hope there’s a whole lot more to come. Grab the EP from the Ghost Locust Music bandcamp site, and as ever, feel free to make a donation.

LongDistanceDan – The Other Side Of The Sky sampler

It is our pleasure to present a sampler for the forthcoming LongDistanceDan EP, “The Other Side Of The Sky”. The release is set for early next year on our own Dusted Industries label. We are all very excited about the EP and can’t wait to release it to the public.
But for now please have a listen to the sampler.

Jimmy Greek & Waatu – Maude’s Delicacies

jimmyJimmy Greek and Waatu release their new collaboration, “Maude’s Delicacies”.
This is full-on, hardcore, raw underground hip hop, coming from left-field. Grimey, gritty, the EP has a real rock influence, without sounding like weak nu-metal (does that still exist? Lets hope not). This give the EP a different feel to a lot of the modern left-field hip hop being released right now and adds to its hard edge.
Jimmy Greek reminds me of a grittier Slug or Sole,  there’s also an Odd Future feel to style and energy, but he comes off a lot nastier, in a good way.
A full length album is set for release in 2014, so for now you can down “Maude’s Delicacies” for your chosen price via bandcamp. The EP consists of 4 new original tracks and 3 remixes, well worth a download I’m sure you will agree.

Dem Atlas – Charle Brwn

demUS underground hip hop label Rhymesayers, have recently signed a new artist to their roster, rapper Dem Atlas.
Atlas’ style is truly refreshing, harking back to the days of Souls Of Mischief, The Pharcyde, De La and Tribe. You don’t often hear a rappers who sound like this anymore.
An official release on Rhymesayers is coming in the near future, but for now grab his self released EP, “Charle Brwn”. It’s free, so what have you got to lose?
