Walter Gross – Super Basic

Walter Gross returns with a new beat tape that pull on all his influences to create an unique, left of centre, experimental album.
“Super Basic” ranges from hard hitting, distorted beats to off kilter electronica and ambient noise. At times I’m reminded of fellow beat creator Al Lover, with the woozey wash of sounds on offer. It definitely makes for interesting listening.
The limited edition cassette and digital are released on May 23rd and we suggest you seek it out!

Buddy Peace – Golden Bangkok Guest

You get a real feel for the sounds of both countries and their local tradition music, while Buddy’s intricate cutting up, splicing and re-imagining brings them into a whole new realm.

The Diabolical Doctor Strange – Magic Theatre Vol. Two

The Diabolidr strangecal Doctor Strange has just dropped a serious beat tape, “Magic Theatre Volume Two”. Mixing up tough hitting, neck snapping beats with plenty of funk, library and who knows where else they come from samples to create some of the freshest instrumental hip hop we’ve heard in some time.
As you would expect from the title and the imagery there is a real cinematic feel to the music on offer here. Doctor Strange has create the hip hop sound track to a 1960’s superhero or villain film, with a real air of mystery around the whole release. Marjen – Marjen

marjenMarc Jensen aka producer Marjen, has just released a tasty new, self titled album on a limited cassette.
The “Marjen” cassette is out now on I Had An Accident Records, the same people who put out the recent Boomruin tape, and a whole load of other good stuff too!
“Four drum-heavy short attention span pieces per side”, this is heavy on the synths, heavy on the beats, or as Marjen puts it;
“Pretty synths nicely capture the movement with emotional drum patterns and cinematic climaxes. Marjen’s self-titled album is a series of short works, pieces that are picked up and dropped off, the movements are fresh, and deliberate.”

Boomruin/BMRN – Monochrome

boomruinFor regular readers, you will know all here at The Left Hand Side are big fans of UK beat maker Boomruin/BMRN.
Now it is great news that his 2012 digital album, “Monochrome” has been release on limited edition cassette via US label I Had An Accident Records.
The album is a fantastic journey through heavy, dusty beats, moody electronics, and classic boom bap hip hop. Instrumental hip hop at it’s best, and this cassette release is really something special, if you can get hold of one.
