True Deceiver – True Deceiver

td

True Deceiver is the new project from lo-fi beatsmith Cars & Trains. The man himself had this to say –
“True Deceiver is something I’ve wanted to do for years: heavy, baritone guitar driven music sitting on a bed of electronic sludge and melodies, inspired by long time favourites like Godflesh, My Bloody Valentine, and Killing Joke. It’s all totally out of my comfort zone and I’m really excited to share it with you, finally.”
This is an excellent mix of shoe gazer, post rock, shoe gazer, drone, guitar lead music that is definitely worth a listen. Available now for free download!

Edan Radio show No.4

The one and only Edan is back with the 4th instalment of his radio show. Playing the usual, or should that be unusual mix hip hop rarities, psychedelia, funk and more. Always informative, always entertaining check it out now!

Memory Man – Broadcast One

Memory Mmemoryan was first brought to our attention by Edan via twitter. Any album that features Edan is of interest, and then when we saw the rest of the line-up we knew this was something special.
‘Broadcast One’ is simply one of the best hip hop albums we have heard in a long time. On paper this is traditional sample based hip hop, however it is far from the typical, so called real boom bap hip hop that can be as boring as the mainstream commercial music it berates so much.
Memory Man mixes up obscure, funky, psychedelic samples with plenty of interesting spoken word snippets to create something unique, exciting and entertaining. It’s not dissimilar to Edans vision of hip hop, however this isn’t someone just trying to copy Edans style, Memory Man is carving out his own path.
The great production is laced with top quality rhymes from some of the best and most interesting underground artists around today. These include, as mentioned, Edan, Kool Keith, Open Mike Eagle, Busdriver, Paul Barman, Prince Po, and Mr Lif.
Available now via bandcamp and on limited vinyl release on Chopped Herring Records, this is a must for all hip hop fans wanting to hear something interesting, unique and funky.

Mad Flow – BC

madflowMad Flow has been a fixture of the UK scene, in Birmingham especially, for some years now. Rhyming, beat boxing, guesting on tracks with the likes of New Flesh and Juice Aleem, Mad Flow is hip hop from the old skool but still moving forward.
‘BC’ is the first single from the forthcoming album, ‘The Abominable Flowman Returns’. Buy the single now from bandcamp and check out the video below.

Vinyl Heaven Documentary

Vinyl is not back – it was here the whole time! And there’s an entire world of great music, that only exists on the “dead format” vinyl. This is the claim behind the documentary ‘VINYL HEAVEN’, which can now be streamed online.
In the film the viewer visits a handful of Copenhagen used record shops and experiences the wonderful world of vinyl: The owners tell about hunting down the old artifacts and the musical pleasures which come with the hunt. Among those appearing is MICHAEL DENNER, former guitarist for Metal personality KING DIAMOND and owner of BEAT-BOP RECORDS, sharing his deep music passion, JESPER HANSEN from SOUND STATION showing the shop’s 3,000 Euros-records and more.
‘VINYL HEAVEN’ is available from DANISHDOX.COM, which specializes in new Danish made documentary
films. 2,5 Euros buys you 48 hours of watching. It’s in Danish language, but has English subtitles.
If you can’t get enough of vinyl on film, you can also watch BEAT DIGGIN’ with Hip-Hop legends DIAMOND
D, SHOWBIZ, BUCKWILD, DA BEATMINERZ and GODFATHER DON creating new music from old vinyl.

Fabiano Do Nascimento – Danca Dos Tempos

‘Dança brasildos Tempos’ is the debut album from thrilling, young Brazilian guitarist Fabiano do Nascimento, and it features legendary percussionist Airto Moreira in his first album project in over ten years. Dança dos Tempos follows folkloric Brazilian music as experienced through the mind and able fingers of an expansive musician, not yet thirty years old, and combines the heady ‘60s and ‘70s experimentalism of Hermeto Pascoal and Baden Powell with the childlike elegance of music played and passed down by native Brazilians for generations.
Released on April 6th on Now-Again Records, preview a track below.

LongDistanceDan – The Other Side Of The Sky

We are verLDD coverspecy proud to present the latest release on our Dusted Industries label, by our very own, LongDistanceDan.
‘The Other Side Of The Sky’ is a new 7 track instrumental EP of raw, psychedelic, funky beats.
Here is what people are saying so far –

“Picture what might have happened on that trip to ‘Nam if James Brown had taken an excess of LSD and become funk’s Colonel Kurtz…It’s not unlike something the Heliocentrics might do actually, or even The Grits. Just a lot faster (in the main) and after ingesting a lot more ‘purple haze.” Monkeyboxing.com

“Really liking this a lot, will definitely play some of these tracks out! Loving the direction you’re going in here.” Strictly Kev (DJ Food/Ninjatune)

“I like the rough and raw sound and the psych touch all over…. it’s been a long time since I’ve heard such a release.” Renegades Of Jazz

Others who have shown their support include 2econd Class Citizen and DJ Format.
The EP is out now for Name Your Price download, however if you are kind enough to part with your cash you will receive an exclusive 45 minute DJ mix direct to your inbox as a little thank you.
Extra special thanks goes to Strictly Kev for the super nice artwork.

Rachel Modest – I (Who Have Nothing)

Leeds based ATA Records release the debut single from soul singer, Rachel Modest. ‘I (Who Have Nothing)’, originally recorded by Ben E. King, has become a soul classic recorded by the likes of Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, Dee Dee Warwick and Gladys Knight. Rachel Modest keeps it stripped back and lets the soul ooze through this slow burning classic. This is a heavy slice of neo-soul that owes more to the 60’s sounds than the modern vision of RnB and soul, and is all the better for it. Download the track now for free!

Boca 45 – Dig, Eat, Beats, Repeat

Beatsmith Bobocaca 45 returns with a brand new album, ‘Dig, Eat, Beats, Repeat’ released on the Digga Please? label.
On offer here we have some of the funkiest beats and b-boy breaks we’ve heard in some time. The album ranges from upbeat, raw funk aimed directly at the dance floor, to more mellow head nodding beats. Boca enlists the help of US hip hoppers The Good People on 2 tracks, bringing that true skool flavour, as well as the soulful tones of Stephanie McKay who features on 3 tracks, including the single, ‘Mr Big Sun’.
The album is created with a great love for the old skool hip hop stylings and brings them up to date, while keeping things super funky. ‘Mr Big Sun’ is released on March 16th while the album see the light of day on March 23rd, check out the Digga Please? site for more information. Check out this 5 minute mix Boca 45 has put together as a sampler of the album.

The High Breed – Reason
